Young man who had been accused of the sexual abuse and murder of his stepdaughter in Galapa was released

A judge revoked the insurance measure against the young man, 17 years old, who on April 30 was identified as allegedly responsible for the death and abuse of a three-month-old baby in the municipality of Galapa, Atlántico.

The teenager was released after the provisional opinion of Legal Medicine indicated that the death of the minor was due to natural causes and not for registering assaults and sexual abuse, as had been issued in the first instance.

It should be remembered that the subject had been apprehended at the health center that night, after preliminary doctors indicated that the baby, who had arrived without vital signs, showed signs of assault and suspicion of rape.

“Presumably, the young man beat her to death,” the director of the Atlántico Prosecutor’s Office, Diana Forero Núñez, had issued a few days ago.

For his part, the mayor of this municipality, José Fernando Vargas, regretted the events recorded and noted that it was a femicide against the minor of three months. “It is a reprehensible fact that deserves the rigor of the law for those responsible.”

In preliminary hearings, after a prosecutor from the Criminal Responsibility Unit for Adolescents charged him with the crimes of aggravated homicide and aggravated violent carnal access, the accused had not accepted responsibility for the charges and was transferred to the El Oasis reeducation center.

In unofficial information it was known that for five days the Prosecutor’s Office had the results of the opinion in its possession; however, they had not commented on the matter.

Likewise, Iván Arnache, the teenager’s lawyer, assured that Legal Medicine pointed out that the baby died of intestinal and pulmonary failure, but not of sexual abuse, for which reason bruises appeared on her body as a result of an illness.

Another case of alleged sexual abuse of a minor was reported north of Valle del Aburrá. This time it’s about a 19-month-old boy who was found with signs of physical violence, malnutrition and possible sexual violence, as reported by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF).

The baby was sent to the Marco Fidel Suárez de Bello hospital without vital signs, but the medical staff managed to revive him. Later, he was sent urgently to the Pablo Tobón Uribe hospital, where he had to undergo surgery, immediately, for damages that were caused due to possible sexual abuse.

The minor is hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) and his condition is critical. The ICBF announced that the baby will be placed in foster care after he is discharged from the hospital.

“We call on parents, neighbors and the community in general to take care of children and adolescents. We cannot allow these sad events to continue happening. If we had known in time of this mistreatment, to which this baby was subjected, the authorities would most certainly have intervened in the case “said Selma Patricia Roldán Tirado, regional director of ICBF Antioquia.

The ICBF reiterates its call not to allow any type of violation. Violence against minors should not be normalized.

According to figures from the Victims’ Judicial Representation Group of the Office of the Public Defender of the Ombudsman’s Office, In the first quarter of this year, a total of 1,178 powers of attorney were received in proceedings in which minors would have been victims of sexual abuse (895 of them were under 14 years of age).

According to that instance, that represented a 9.5% increase from 1,075 registrations in the same period in 2021.
