Urges Inmujer-BC to denounce harassment and sexual harassment

Pedrín points out that compliments, acts of sexual harassment, jokes, teasing or insinuations are behaviors of sexual harassment.

ENSENADA.- In accordance with the strategy of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, to prevent, address and eradicate gender violence, the Institute for Women of Baja California (InMujer-BC), carried out the training: “Harassment and Sexual Harassment”.

The head of this organization, Karla Pedrín Rembao, explained that the talk was given to teaching staff of the Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) Ensenada campus, to raise awareness and create a culture of denunciation of these facts.

He commented that sexual harassment is the exercise of power, in a relationship of real subordination of the victim to the aggressor in the workplace and/or school; It is expressed in verbal or physical conduct or both, related to sexuality with a lewd connotation.

For its part, sexual harassment is a form of violence in which, although there is no subordination, there is an abusive exercise of power that leads to a defenseless state and risk for the victim, regardless of whether it is carried out in one or multiple events.

Likewise, compliments, acts of sexual harassment, jokes, ridicule or insinuations without consent or reciprocity, “are behaviors of harassment or sexual harassment,” added Pedrín Rembao.

It recommends: “…if you have experienced harassment or sexual harassment, give voice and report anything that threatens your integrity by contacting the offices of Inmujer-BC, where you will be advised on the ways to report.”
