After learning of the case of a 7-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten and abused inside a shelter located in the district of Characato, The Ombudsman’s Office spoke during the night of this Monday, May 9, and requested the authorities of the Public ministry speed up the investigations and order the corresponding protection measures in favor of the aggrieved minor.
“We communicate with the Prosecutor’s Office to request that a speedy investigation be carried out and protection measures be issued in favor of the victim, in accordance with her best interests”, points out the Ombudsman through Twitter.
It must be specified that the case would have occurred on Sunday, May 1, but the minor’s mother only found out about it last Wednesday, May 4. Initially, they told her that he had been assaulted by other minors; however, then learned that he had been abused by two companions, aged 11 and 13, respectively.

Currently, the child is in a serious condition hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the San Juan de Dios clinic, said the child’s mother.
Along the same lines, the Ombudsman requested the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations to initiate an urgent inspection of these establishments throughout the region, in order to “verify the state in which the children and adolescents who are sheltered live and avoid situations violence of any kind”.
