Evangelical pastor sentenced to 27 years in prison for sexual abuse of 10 indigenous girls

The Sentencing Court presided over by Judge Zunilda Martínez Noguera and made up of Marino Méndez and Herminio Montiel sentenced an evangelical pastor to 27 years in prison for sexual abuse of 10 indigenous girls. The oral trial concluded this Friday night in the Judiciary of Ciudad del Este.

The final grade was given in accordance with article 135, inc 1, inc 2, numeral 2 and 3, in addition to subsection 3 of the Criminal Code, modified by law 6002/17, in accordance with article 29, inc 1, at the same as article 70, inc 1 and 2 of the Penal Code.

The sentenced person is Inocencio Ramón Denis Torres, who during the substantiation of the oral trial avoided giving statements. However, it was fully proven that he himself took advantage of his status as spiritual leader of the Aché community of Puerto Barra, district of Naranjal, to commit the abuses.

The events date back to October 27, 2019. According to background information, the victims, some just 4 years old, were taken to remote places to be abused by the man sanctioned today by the Collegiate Court. In exchange for frequently groping them in their private parts, the religious gave sweets to the little ones, according to the evidence produced in the contradictory public.

At the time of the ruling, the magistrates took into account the condition of Denis Torres, who at the time was in charge of the minors, who was to serve as a guide, in addition to the degree of preparation he had and the confidence he enjoyed in community. All these highly negative situations raised the degree of reproach.

Likewise, during the hearing, the previous life of the accused was analyzed, who already has a previous sentence, of 4 years and 8 months, for an act of the same nature of which his 9-year-old granddaughter was the victim.

As for the consequences of the conduct displayed by the perpetrator of the act, there were serious physical and psychological sequels in the victims, who were not even treated, according to the grounds of the court.

The prosecutors José Silguero, from the Santa Rita Zonal Unit, and Vivian Coronel, from the Unit Specialized in Punishable Acts against Children and Adolescents, represented the Public Ministry.
