Enable line to report cases of sexual abuse in sports

To report a case of any type of violence, victims or witnesses can dial 018000114060 from any landline or cell phone in Colombia, the first line of its kind in Latin America.

“We accompany our athletes, coaches, judges… we help them file a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office, Attorney General’s Office, ICBF or the relevant authority and we follow up on the cases to ensure that their rights are respected and that gender-based violence is not sports practice is abandoned, ”explained the deputy minister of sports, Daniela Maturana.

The entity also pointed out that complaints can be filed by both minors and anonymous persons. Complainants will receive initial psychological and social orientation.

Complaints will also be received through the email nisilencioniviolencia@mindeporte.gov.co, a virtual chat, a digital form or in person at the administrative headquarters of the Ministry of Sport.

According to official data, to date and since 2020, when the registry began, Ministry of Sport has received 35 cases of violence, four of these were received in the first ten days since the telephone line came into operation, on April 1st.

The regions with the highest number of reported cases are Bogotá, Antioquia and Boyacá. However, the Sports portfolio reported that it will analyze data from the leagues, federations, municipalities and departments with the highest rates of gender-based violence to reinforce the inspection, surveillance and control of those organizations of the National Sports System involved.

And prevention?

Regarding actions to prevent gender violence, one of the most effective ways to eliminate these cases, the Ministry of Sport responded that the entity has its own protocol for the prevention, attention and eradication of gender-based violence, a guide methodology that allows the actors of the National Sports System to have the bases to promote safe spaces.

He also assured that within the framework of the ‘Ni Silencio Ni Violencia’ campaign, the entity is touring the country to socialize the protocol and generate, through educational activities, a collective awareness of what gender-based violence is, how to identify it, prevent it and serve them.

Socializations have taken place in Sogamoso, Zipaquirá, Popayán, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Tumaco, Medellín, Cali, Manizales, Ibagué, Pereira and Neiva.
